About Stress / BurnoutWe can experience stress in various situations. Stress and the response of your body to stress is a healthy one when it is short term exposure such as a job interview or realising you have forgotten something important. This stress response used to protect us from harm or danger but in modern days we are not as often exposed to life threatening situations. These days the stress response can be activated by physical or mental stress. The short term activation of this system helps to better cope with the stressful event as it provides extra energy to solve the problem. When this response is activated on a regular basis or even continuously, you will experience feelings of exhaustion and lack of productivity. Common stress symptoms are: heart palpitations, shortness of breath, tiredness, feelings of depression or anxiety, panic attacks, trembling hands, change in appetite, warm flushes, cold limbs, headaches.
Stress can be caused by work pressure, family situations, physical illness or other impacting factors in your life. |
